Over the years the style and practice of leadership within lawenforcementagencies has gradually changed. In the past leadership wasprimarily relegatedto one individual within the department. However there has beenatransformation in leadership theory resulting in a more dynamicmultifacetednature of teamwork inclusion and dispersed leadership. More andmore policechiefs are being encouraged to move toward a more participatoryleadership styleof management one that encourages collaboration and cooperation inthedecision-making process.
